Tori shows up also on a remix of the track called "Workers" at the end which is used during the big toy war scene in the movie. besides those two tracks, there's a great song called "Closing of the Year" by Wendy and Lisa (formerly of Prince's Revolution) and Seal. there's a Pat Metheny track which as not bad as far he goes and a track off Enya's "Shepherd Moons." it's a typical soundtrack album with a little holiday tinge to it, but if you want Happy Worker it's probably your cheapest way of getting it on cd! jorge (than Ren & Stimpy Xmas album is just the funniest fucking thing in this world) ____/| \|/ ____ \|/ \ - O| jorge fernandez @~/ ,. \~@ =(_)= jferna03@fiu.edu /_( \__/ )_\ U \__U_/ "If you lose you faith, babe, you can have mine and if you're lost i'm right behind you cause we walk the same line...." - Everything But The Girl G O G A T O R S ! ! ! ! ------------------------------ From: Piglet Date: Wed, 20 Dec 1995 11:11:33 -0500 (EST) Subject: toys soundtrack I have the soundtrack and absolutely love it. I bought it even before I knew who Tori was and that she was on it. The other songs are pretty good. There is an Enya song on it, Ebudae. I would recommend getting it. What is the > song and how good is it? Are there any other good songs on the soundtrack? > Thanks. Here, let me see if I can beat Greg Burrell to the answer: Tori's voice can be heard on "The Happy Worker," "Workers," and "The Closing Of The Year / Happy Workers (Reprise)." None of these songs are real long or super-important (I think they're a little repetitive, not the rich, multi-layered, multi-parted songs that Tori usually does); but I picked up the soundtrack used for $1.95 (look in the cut-out bins) and would have paid $8 for it. It's a judgement call; but I wouldn't advise spending $15.95 on this album solely for the Tori Song or you may be disappointed. 1. Winter Reveries -- excerpt from Tchaikovsky's Symphony #1 2. The Closing of the Year -- cast, featuring Wendy & Lisa (a little syrupy but ok) 3. Ebudae -- Enya (prototypical Enya -- if you like her in general, you'll like this) 4. The Happy Worker -- Tori Amos (full song but still seems short at 4:19; it might have been written to be background music; I suspect the filmmakers just wanted something brief to use when they showed the workers on the factory floor) 5. Alsatia's Lullaby -- Julia Migenes/ Hans Zimmer (operatic, haunting, nicely done) 6. Workers -- cast (Trevor Horn mix; ugly, short) 7. Let Joy & Innocence Prevail -- Pat Metheny (nice enough instrumental) 8. The General -- Michael Gambon (just a little dialogue excerpt over a few minutes of unspectacular battle music) 9. The Mirror Song -- Thomas Dolby w/Robin Williams & Joan Cusack (synth-heavy Dolby song; Robin's voice is not much in evidence; I find the song annoyingly repetitive, some like it; good pun in the lyrics) 10.Battle Introduction -- Robin William (another brief dialogue excerpt during a long stretch of mellow battle music) 11.Welcome To The Pleasuredome -- Frankie Goes To Hollywood (I'm sure FGTH never touched this "Into Battle Mix"; it's an instrumental-heavy version produced by Trevor Horn) 12.Let Joy & Innocence Prevail -- Grace Jones (same as track #7 except with Grace singing; low-key, not her best work, but still nice; sounds vaguely Celtic) 13.The Closing Of The Year / Happy Workers (Reprise) (another Trevor Horn mix of Tori's voice; short, more anguished sounding, mixed among two other reprises) So, overall, the soundtrack is a little light on new music, but I listen to it here at work often enough. Most of it is harmless background-ish music. --Zeigen (E. Same lyrics but this time its Jane Siberry who I believe was originally slated to do all the "Happy Worker" songs before Tori was called in. No offense to Jane Siberry fans, but Tori's vocals work MUCH better. And with that, Greg rides off into the sunset to the theme from "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly"... :) -Greg ("he writes letters...") PS. Trivia: other big names appearing on this album are Peter Gabriel, Enya, Steve Howe, Ian Hunter, Grace Jones, Pat Metheny, and Seal. ------------------------------
