Date: Fri, 2 Sep 1994 14:13:57 -0700 (PDT) From: Lolly Subject: yes, it's me again hi everyone, I went to the second SF show last night... and a weird thing happened, my brother from Maryland decided to make a surprise visit to this area, so with Greg's help I got him a ticket and dragged him with me :) (well, dragged isn't really the right word, since he's a pretty big fan too, but not quite as rabid as I am...) My brother and I got to the theater at 8, but since neither of us had had anything to eat all day we decided to miss some of the opening act to nourish ourselves... That's not to say that I don't like Bill Miller, he's great (especially the song that he sings in his language). He also has a great sense of humor ("When we were young we used to play cowboys and indians... I was always an Indian... and we always won") but I'd already seen him the night before and I'll see him again at Berkeley. During the break after Bill Miller, the stage people went out and started arranging all these stuffed animals on the piano... it was so cute :) All of them but one went on the Bosendorfer (the main piano) but one was hung off of the prepared piano (The one she uses for Bells For Her). The show was great... not as amazing as Wednesday's, but still really really good. The highlight for me was, of course, SPACE DOG! When I met her at the radio station on Tuesday, I'd asked her to play it, but I didn't know if she'd remember... I really love that song, and I'd never heard it live before. I love the way she sings the background vocals separately before the song, and the way she sings "just got nas-ty weather...". then when she goes from the background vocals to the main part, it sounds really powerful. And she puts a lot of emotion into the "deck the halls, I'm young again..." part. She wasn't talkative, the only story she told was one before Space Dog, that story is bizarre! but it's cute. She didn't even tell a story before Icicle! but the piano intro to Icicle was VERY different from the normal intro... probably another hymn (I don't recognize them). It was really good... Oh, and right after Crucify she took one of the stuffed animals from the piano (It was a weird blue thing...it had legs and arms but I have no idea what it was supposed to be :) and started playing with it and making it dance... and then she spread the arms apart and said "see? now it's crucified". Another song she did especially well was Baker Baker... That song always gets to me. Past The Mission was one of the encores, and it was great, too. After the show I was debating whether to stay and try to meet her or not... I knew my brother was tired so I decided I'd better not... but then as we were walking to the car he asked me if I wanted to wait for her... he said he didn't mind, so I decided to stay after all, and I'm REALLY glad that I did! It was a pretty long wait, and people were starting to get bored and do goofy things... one guy yelled out 'TORI!!!!' really loud a couple of times, as if she could hear him... and then people started making fun of him and yelling out 'STELLAAAAA!!!' (a-la "A Street Car Named Desire") then she finally came out... I was in the front so Greg gave me his camera and I took a few pictures (I hope some of them come out well, because people kept moving so it was hard to get her in the picture). She had a pretty short walk from the stage door to the car, and the security people kept pushing her towards the car, but she took her time and talked to people, and hugged people etc... and then she got to me, and I said "Thanks for playing Space Dog, Tori!" and she looked at me for a second and then she recognized me! (from Tuesday morning) and she said "oh, sweetie, I told you I would" and she smiled at me and gave me a big hug and a kiss on the cheek! I was so excited that she remembered me! Everyone knows this already, but she is so adorable...needless to say I was completely giddy for the rest of the night... :) :) :) (still am, when I think about it). My brother said that he really enjoyed the concert, and it was a lot better than the one in Baltimore that he'd been to... (she played China, which is one of his favorites). well, that's all folks :) byebye, Lila. P.S: This is what my best friend says every time I come home from a Tori concert...
