Note that:
- ADRIATIC is for "Adriatico", the sea on east Italy, the sea in front of
Bosnia and Croatia, the sea that in Europe divide/unite the western
civilization and the eastern civilization;
- SEASIDE METROPOLIS is the linear town along a beach 40 Km. long on the
Adriatic Sea: it's formed by little municipalities, a turistic-based
economy society, with a lot of discos and hotel (a sort of italian popular
Las Vegas);
- ROMAGNA is the eastern part of the region "Emilia-Romagna".

No proposition of ends, but tangible reality;
no simulation of acting and living, but concrete experience ...
real dream of the applied arts, but not only this.
Here it is ... an almost sea-creature, surfacing and whirling
on the sea-foam, a fertile bosom of our shores.

Preface :
CONTEMPORARY HISTORY IS ACCELERATED
BY THE MODIFYING ACTION OF COMMUNICATIONS

Progress in XX Century can be simbolically represented with an image :
SPEED.
Whereas, at the beginning of the century,
it identified itself with the more and more pressing rhythms
imposed by the rising industrialization
- think of the machinistical myth of car, train, plane and ship -
nowadays, in the mass-society, it transformed itself
and became a vortical communicative flow,
the symbolic image of information moving fast all around the world.
>From  a mechanical age we have thus come to an electronic age.
Speed was substituted by
SIMULTANEOUSNESS,
contemporaneous physical presence in different telematical spots.
The course of History, measured before by years and centuries,
is now enormously sped up by the echo of the mass-media,
strongly conditioned and continuously modified by their effect.

SOCIETY IN THE FUTURE WILL BE TECHNOLOGIC,
THEREFORE ICONIC,
THEREFORE DECORATIVE

In industrially developped societies,
we are witnessing an epoch-making turning point,
dictated by the exponential expansion of electronic technology
and by a fast increase in the ratio quantity/time of the elaborated data.
The possibility of the international use of technology
is mostly due to the  creation of an iconic and trasnational language,
which allowed stepping over the several linguistic barriers.
The need to communicate is therefore passing through the use of icons.
An ambient saturated with messages will obviously be saturated with icons,
which will tend to form a texture,
which, released from its meaning and autonomously considered,
will itself become a decorative and self-sufficient element.

A NEW TELEMATIC GEOGRAPHY
IS TAKING THE PLACE OF PHYSICAL GEOGRAPHY

Ever since, we have known a physical-political geography,
identifying social and cultural ties historically formed.
In the last decades,  a second one, telematic and impalpable,
is taking its place, identifying communicational ties
made possible by the expansion of communications.
While physical geography is tending to break away and to delimitate itself,
telematic geography is more and more tending to homogeneity and to expansion.

REGIONALISM IS THE OBLIGED DOOR
TOWARDS A NEW COSMOPOLITISM

The strain to search one's own identity
is an unsplitable aspect of the human being.
It does not deal with building systems or putting forwards a thesis.
It deals with definying through a difference.
It deals with  describing and not with stating.
Neo-regionalism is no style but an attitude.
Individualistic bulwark against the mass culture invasion,
it underlines the consciences variety.
It is the world citizenship of its own conscience.

NEO-REGIONALISM AIMS AT THE RECOVERY
OF THE INDIVIDUAL DIGNITY OF MAN

The only thing each man owns, in the complex craftiness of the world,
is his own history or rather his own land, his own origin, his own experiences.
The ideological and productive conformism of the mass-media civilization
twists the complexity of the local histories,
that in each time and space generate special situations linked to special
conditions.
Neo-regionalism shows the tendency to the recovery of the innest values,
the only ones able to give absolute dignity to every citizen of the world.

THE SEASIDE METROPOLIS
GAVE BIRTH TO ITS OWN REGIONAL STYLE :
THE ADRIATIC LINE

- A cosmopolitan aptitude
- Modernist anxiety
- Decorativity as environmental system
- A fatalistic naturalism conscious of biological cyclicity
these are the formal specific characters of the Riviera di Romagna, in Italy.
