2400 A GOVERNMENT GUIDED BY ITSELF, RATHER THAN PEOPLE

"The Myth of Majority Voting,...Political representatives in a
modern industrial state, once elected, are essentially
independent of the voters and are guided in their actions more by
party loyalty and discipline than by the views of their
constituents." (2-Page x)

Research has shown that people would like to maintain their
ability to affect the decision making process of the government
beyond the point of electing people, and thus initiates this
essay, to bring about a system which is inherently more
democratic than the one we are in.

2410 WHAT TYPE OF GOVERNMENT ARE WE LIVING IN ?

"Some governments are the responsibility of large groups of
people, while other governments are entrusted to a few leaders or
just one." (1-Page 8)

"The term democracy comes from the Greek word demos, "people",
and kratos, "power" or "rule". Literally, therefore, it means
"people power" or "rule by the people." (1-Page 8)

"A dictatorship is a system of government in which the leader,
who usually has a small group of powerful supporters, rules
according to personal decisions and suppresses opposing
opinions." (1-Page 8)

2420 DEMOCRACY INCREASES WITH THE NUMBER OF DECISION MAKERS

It follows that a government becomes increasingly democratic as
the number of decision makers increases from one to many, and
reaches complete democracy when Everyone gets to vote on issues
that affect Everyone.

With the existing system, we still see the influence of huge
financial powers upon the decision making community of a minority
of people in the country, namely the government, ruling over 30
million people.

Up to this point in history there has not yet been a way to
feasibly calculate the data input of Everyone in Canada, yet due
to breakthroughs such as banking machines, it is a natural
evolution for Everyone to vote on national issues.

                                             by Peter Green

2430 WHO IS MAKING DECISIONS WHICH AFFECT EVERYONE ?

"in Canada, the head of state--the ultimate source of legislative
authority--is the monarch (the King or Queen). ... The Governor
General is the representative of the monarch in Canada,...(and
is) always recommended by the Prime Minister of Canada." (1-Page
19)

"In Canada, a government is formed by the political party which
wins a federal election by having the greatest number of
representatives elected to the House of Commons. The leader of
the party which forms the government--the government party--is
the Prime Minister. ...From the MP's of his own party, the Prime
Minister chooses certain members to form a body known as the
Cabinet." (1-Page 19)

"The Senate has 104 members, appointed by the Governor General on
the advice of the Prime Minister. Since this advice is always
taken, it is, in effect, if not in theory, the Prime Minister who
decides upon Senate appointments." (1-Page 20)

Thus we find that we are not living in a democracy at all, rather
a Monarchy. Secondly, even the representatives which are
elected, merely support the government party, and the consequent
decisions of that party and its leader, the Prime Minister.

Third of all we see the incredible influence that one elected
individual, the Prime Minister, has over choosing the people who
will support his decisions, independent of the public opinion,
and with the arresting of protestors, reads closer to our
definition of dictatorship than democracy.

2440 CANADA: DEMOCRACY OR DICTATORSHIP ?

In a true democracy, or "rule by the people" (1-Page 8), we, the
people, the rulers, would not put ourselves in jail for
protesting the genocide of the world's last temperate rainforest.

Rather it is more like a dictatorship, where the government
party, "who usually has a small group of powerful supporters,"
(1-Page 8), namely the Senate and the Military, "rules according
to personal decisions and suppresses opposing opinions." (1-Page
8)

Suppression of opposing opinions is seen by the heavy fining and
arresting of individuals who opposed the opinions of the
Government Party, who are supporting the opinions of the logging
companies.

2485 FROM MONARCHY TO PANARCHY

"The British Empire will endure so long as it serves a useful
purpose, so long as its constituent elements find it better to
belong to it than stand alone." (3-Page 127)

Canada has long tried to come up with a constitution which would
please Everyone in Canada, yet even with a national referendum,
the issue was on the entire document, which is as confusing as
trying to vote on a single person or party.

Using a fact map, like the format in which this essay has been
written, each person votes on each module as they understand it.
Each fact map point is re-written until clarity and consensus
between the author and voter is reached.

By systematically assembling the facts, or agreed upon truths
which are believed and supported by Everyone, we can write
together, fact by fact, a new constitution which will free us
from our Monarchy and let us all live happily ever after.
