"We think our developer relations staff, will be able to capitalize on the synergies of the technology and tasty beverage. We'll have more members from both Sun and Apple in this new development community and attendance at our conferences and training sessions will double. So naturally it makes sense to have a tasty beverage on hand," Said John Leaf, business development manager for the new Snapple.
Michael Spindler, president and CEO, of Apple said he is looking forward to meeting Wendy the Snapple lady. "Hey, I've got a few good years left and drinking Snapple has put a little more pep in my step. I've got her to thank for that."
Both Apple and Sun have committed to consolidating efforts build the organization into one of the industry's best. "Now that we are all drinking from the same cup so to speak, this transition should go smoothly," said one source close to the talks.
Not everyone is impressed with the new name however. Eric Schmidt, Sun's Chief Technology Officer, said he though Snapple might confuse users of Sun's popular new programming language, Java. "When I go to Fry's I reach for a Coke because I'm a stickler for tradition. Snapple, it's okay. But come on it's no Java. I don't think the name represents our true taste in beverage or the technology we produce. My mom will like it though."
Microsoft is rumored to be in talks to acquire PepsiCo. Such a move would give Microsoft access to the popular Pizza Hut and Taco Bell food chains, but perhaps more importantly the soft drink. The company is lobbying congress to allow higher limits of caffeine in soda with hopes of increasing productivity from programmers.
