A Big Shelf of CDs

Stephen blushes and looks at his feet. He says, "I do have a lot of CDs, don't I? 155 or so. Mostly women artists, mostly modern music. My collection is dominated by `alternative' rock, whatever that means, but I have some classical music, some soundtracks, a little progressive music, and a touch of jazz, too."

He picks up three CDs. "I buy two or three CDs every month," he says. "These are the ones I've bought most recently."

June 1995 CDs

"Huh. Well, I haven't bought any for this month, yet."

May 1995 CDs

"I don't have time to really review all of the CDs I bought for April and May. But here's a few brief reveiws of some of them."

Elastica - This CD is in my head. The rhythms and tunes are as catchy as hell and they have a great attitude.

Maxinquay (Tricky) - Haunting. The vocals, by Martine, are hypnotizing. Mood music, dance music, experimental and thoroughly different. Like breathing outside air after touring a brewery -- you're drunk, but refreshed.

Protection (Massive Attack) - Like Tricky, but weirder. The first song, featuring the vocalist from Everything But The Girl, sends shivers down my spine.

April 1995 CDs

"There were some, but I don't know off the top of my head what they were. A Tori Amos boot and some other random stuff."

"I can show you much more detailed reviews for the CDs I bought in March, February or January if you want," Stephen says, looking at you just a little bit too intently.

You shake your head hurriedly and look around the living room again.
