CDs Purchased by Stephen in March

"Here they are. A little sketchy, but you get the idea."

March 1995 CDs

Bettie Serveert's Palomine -- "This is their first album. It's beautiful, catchy. The lead singer Carol's voice gets under my skin. More hooks than their second album; "Tomboy" is like a virus that reproduces under your breath. Overall, this is a fabulous album. I did review their second album, Lamprey, in February's reviews."

P.J. Harvey's To Bring You My Love -- "I love P.J. Harvey. This is her brand new album, it just came out on February 28th. It's really great: a little more bluesy than her previous three albums, with a full band sound and more variation to the songs. I like the single; you can read about it in February's reviews. The songs vary a great deal in styles on this CD, but they are all true to Polly's unique approach to music. If you've never heard her before, you'll find her first album, Dry to be her most accessable (it featured two almost-hit songs, `Dress' and `Sheela-Na-Gig') and her second album, Rid of Me to be her most aggressive and sonic, since it was produced by Steve Albini. Her third album, 4-Track Demos, has remixes of her earlier work."

Pizzicato Five's MADE in USA -- "They're a cute group. Kinda poppy, kinda weird, kinda cheesy, kinda jazzy. They have strange samples. Mostly they sing in Japanese, but a couple of the songs are in English. Their hit song is called `Twiggy Twiggy/Twiggy vs. James Bond.' My friend Partha just saw them in concert and he isn't even a fan. I couldn't get tickets myself. This album is all over the place. Some songs are so much like a bad lounge act that you cringe; other songs have a real emotional touch and unforgettable hooks. Most of my friends hate this album, but the ones who like it really like it a lot. No one seems to be in-between."

"I could always talk about the CDs I picked up in January or February. Or you can see the CDs I bought recently again, if you want. It's your choice."

You cough and look back at the living room again.
