How to turn off anti-virus scanning:
Norton Anti-Virus:
1 - Exit any email programs that are running, such as Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express.
2 - Start Norton AntiVirus.
If Norton AntiVirus is installed as part of Norton SystemWorks or Norton Internet Security, then start that program.
3 - Click Options.
If you see a menu, click Norton AntiVirus.
4 - In the left pane, click Email.
5 - In the right pane, uncheck Scan incoming Email and Scan outgoing Email.
6 - Click OK.
7 - If you use Norton AntiVirus 2006/2005, then in the Protection Alert dialog box, on the drop-down menu, click Permanently, and then click OK.
8 - Exit Norton AntiVirus.
McAfee Anti-Virus:
1 - Open McAfee Security Center. To do this click on the red letter "M" down at the bottom-right hand corner of your screen by the clock.
2 - Click on Virus Scan.
3 - Click on "Configure virus scan options" (at the top right-hand side of the window).
4 - Un-check "Scan email and attachments". Click OK.
5 - Click OK on the pop-up that tells you about the need to restart your e-mail program.
6 - Now you should be back on the main McAfee Security Center page. Click on Spam Killer, which is probably over on the left at the bottom.
7 - It says "Click here if you want to Disable Spam Killer." up at the top. Click there.
8 - Now it should say "Email filtering is disabled" and/or "Spam Killer is not protecting your computer".
9 - Close McAfee.
