42 Dialup Connection Using MacOS X

1. Open the Network Control Panel. (Apple Menu -> System Preferences -> Network) and create a new location or simply edit the one you have now if you are just changing ISPs to 42.

2. Click the tab at the top labeled "TCP/IP". Make sure this is set to configured using PPP server .
Note that under Mac OS X you do not need to enter in DNS server addresses. Everything is assigned by our servers once you connect.

3. Click on the PPP tab.

Type in the telephone number 295 4015 (Alternate: 295 4123) (if you are not local to Berkeley, CA, please contact for additional dialup numbers) and your login name (with @netwired.net) and password.

4. Click the PPP options button.

We suggest clicking "Connect automatically when starting TCP/IP applications. Otherwise, you will need to connect manually using the "Internet Connect" application (in the Mac OS X Applications folder).
You may also want to have the system prompt you to maintain a connection every 25 minutes. Our modems will disconnect you if there are 30 minutes of idle time (no traffic to or from your modem in 30 minutes). This reminder will notify you before the 30 minute time limit, so you can generate some network traffic (for example, checking your email) before you get disconnected.

That's all you need to do... The Modem tab will allow you to turn the modem speaker off and on. Keeping the speaker on is helpful is diagnosing connection problems.
